Clean Up Days
PFQAC holds clean ups along Queen Anne’s County roads and waterways once a month on Saturday mornings.  Dates and locations will be posted on our Facebook page and in our newsletter.

Plastic Free QAC holds a clean up effort on a Queen Anne’s County road or waterway once a month. Plastic litter is a hazard to the water, birds, fish, and turtles that surround us.

Past Clean Up Days

February 2020

On February 1, 14 dauntless volunteers gathered in the cold and fog at the intersection of Wharf Drive and Main Street in Chester (near Exit 41). We collected 27 bags of trash, which included 173 plastic bags. Our most unique finds were a ukulele and a bride’s garter. This clean up set records for the most volunteers (14) and the biggest haul (27 bags). Our volunteers are amazing!

November 2019

On November 15, we picked up trash along a stretch of Dominion Road in Chester. Eight volunteers collected 12 bags of trash, which included 103 plastic bags. Our most unique finds were a cell phone and a raccoon’s tail (yikes!). We want to thank our many volunteers for their hard work in 2019! You picked up 151 bags of trash. Among all that trash were 979 plastic bags, 679 plastic bottles, and 575 metal cans and glass bottles.

October 2019 – Hello all! Just a note to thank you SO MUCH for coming out yesterday. The 2 areas we cleaned up look pristine now, all thanks to you. FYI, our clean up yielded 18 bags of trash between the 2 sites. Among the debris were 68 plastic bags, 160 plastic bottle, and 106 glass bottles and cans. You found some amazing things – Greg found old tractor parts, Bente found a circuit board and $1, and our young volunteer, Sean, found a crab pot. And we must solve the mystery – who found the pink roller skate?

May 2019

We worked two sections of Route 18 in Chester and Stevensville. Twelve volunteers collected 20 bags of trash, which included 64 plastic bags, 261 plastic bottles, and 143 glass bottles and cans.   Some of our most unique finds included a five-leaf clover, an empty turtle shell, a mangled credit card, and a pregnancy test!

April 2019

PFQAC volunteers collected 89 plastic grocery bags, 77 plastic bottles, 56 cans and glass bottles, $6 in cash, a tire, a tiny hula dancer and much more!

March 2019

Seven volunteers collected 23 bags of trash, including 86 plastic bags, 25 plastic bottles, and 35 cans and glass bottles along Main Street from the Chester Safeway and Lowery’s Produce eastward for about ¼ mile. Our most unique finds were a woman’s wig and a cellphone.
